MEDICAL MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage therapy isn’t just for relaxation. Massage therapy is now being used in the medical field, because of its ability to reduce pain and injuries. Medical Massage is a scientifically based method of manual therapy designed to reduce pain, establish normal tissue tension, create a positive tissue environment and to normalize the movement of the musculoskeletal system. It is frequently used for patients who are recovering from injuries or surgical procedures to help speed healing and recovery.

Therapeutic Massage is usually performed by massage therapists working in a spa-type setting and is described as a general, feel-good massage. However, Medical Massage therapists, while competent and well trained in relaxation-based massage, also have both the knowledge and experience to address specific musculoskeletal disorders. Medical Massage is often not a general treatment. Rather, Medical Massage Therapy is frequently applied as a specific manual therapy to the areas relating to the diagnoses provided by the primary care physician.
